STATWARS – CALLING FOR PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT

STATWARS® has been designed to encourage children and young adults in primary and secondary schools to engage with data and develop data analysis skills. This is currently being piloted in several primary and secondary schools in Scotland with funding from Skills Development Scotland Digital Fund and The Data Lab and it is supported by the BBC and Glasgow City College.

Data Scientists, Analysts, Creatives who work in the Film or TV industry, can you help??

We are looking to link professionals to the schools to:

  • Give advice and answer questions(face to face or via Skype)
  • Provide a context for the project;making pupils and teachers aware of related careers
  • To record a ‘piece-to-camera’ giving advice on using data, infographics, creating posters for a demographic, making a pitch to remember and/orshort video production guidelines
  • To judge the entries at the awards day at Glasgow City College on the 14th March 2019.

If you can help with any of the above, please register via this survey link and we will help to link you to schools. Any questions please contact victoria.lane@primaryengineer.com

Awards Ceremony: shortlisted entries will be announced on the website www.statwarscompetition.com and teams will be invited to the awards at City of Glasgow College on the 14th March 2019 as part of DataFest19 with support from the BBC. The ceremony will enable the teams to display their ideas and talk further with the judges. The event will also see the launch of the project as a major new digital competition for schools.

Entry Requirements: two posters, each no larger than A2, one will be the film or TV series advert, the other infographics displaying where the data was taken from and how it was interpreted. To accompany the posters will be a Team 60 second ‘elevator pitch’ video.

STATWARS is part of the wider Primary Engineer Programmes for the Institution of Primary Engineers and Institution of Secondary Engineers.
